For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Falvey literacy in 1911
Of the Falveys whose literacy was recorded, 84% could both read and write, 2.2% could read but not write, and 13.8% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.3%), farm labourer (4.2%), general labourer (4.2%) and mason / bricklayer (3.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.7% of all Falveys, followed by building & construction, general labourers and domestic service.
