The 1911 Census recorded 149 people named Fehily in Ireland; roughly one in every 29,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 78 men and 70 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The average Fehily in 1911 was 26.2 years old, 25.2 for men and 27.4 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Fehily literacy in 1911
Of the Fehilys whose literacy was recorded, 78.1% could both read and write, 4.8% could read but not write, and 17.1% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 80% reading and writing against 77.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (14), James, Michael, Patrick and Jeremiah. For women it was Mary (13), followed by Margaret, Ellen, Kate and Bridget.

The most common entry on a Fehily's census form was "Scholar"; 28.2% (42) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (11.4%), farmer (6.7%), domestic servant (6%) and general labourer (6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 18.8% of all Fehilys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and professional.
