Foody literacy in 1911
Of the Foodys whose literacy was recorded, 74.1% could both read and write, 5.9% could read but not write, and 20% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (12), James, John, Patrick and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Bridget (15), followed by Mary, Margaret, Sarah and Ellen.

The most common occupation among Foodys was farmer, 33.3% of them (58 people). Next came scholar / student (25.9%), general labourer (4.6%), domestic servant (2.3%) and farm labourer (2.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 35.6% of all Foodys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and no occupation / dependent.
