The 1911 Census recorded 853 people named Frawley in Ireland; roughly one in every 5,100 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 458 men and 394 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The Frawleys were heavily concentrated in Clare, home to 50.9% of them (434 people). Next came Limerick (244), Tipperary (46), Cork (43) and Dublin (25).

The average Frawley in 1911 was 29.6 years old, 28.7 for men and 30.6 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Frawley literacy in 1911
Of the Frawleys whose literacy was recorded, 81.7% could both read and write, 4% could read but not write, and 14.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 82.7% reading and writing against 80.5% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (80), John, Michael, Thomas and James; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (70), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Catherine and Ellen.

The most common entry on a Frawley's census form was "Scholar"; 22.5% (192) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (19.8%), farm labourer (4.9%), general labourer (3.4%) and domestic servant (2.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 24.9% of all Frawleys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
