Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.8% of all Galbraiths, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and metal & engineering.

The largest religious group among Galbraiths was Presbyterian, at 46.9%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (33.1%), Roman Catholic (8.5%), Methodist (5.4%) and Unitarian (3.3%).
