Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (8.6%), general labourer (8.6%), housekeeper (5.2%) and textile worker (5.2%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 15.5% of all Geehans, followed by general labourers, agriculture and textiles & clothing.

Geehans were predominantly Roman Catholic (89.7%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (3.4%) and Presbyterian (1.7%).
