The 1911 Census recorded 66 people named Gingles in Ireland; roughly one in every 67,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 32 men and 34 women.

The average Gingles in 1911 was 25.4 years old, 25.1 for men and 25.7 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Gingles literacy in 1911
Of the Gingleses whose literacy was recorded, 87.9% could both read and write, 3.4% could read but not write, and 6.9% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 92.6% reading and writing against 83.9% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Andrew (4), Patrick, Thomas, James and William. For women it was Margaret (3), followed by Mary, Ellen, Maggie and Matilda.

The most common entry on a Gingles's census form was "Scholar"; 24.2% (16) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (12.1%), textile worker (4.5%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3%) and carpenter / joiner (1.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.6% of all Gingleses, followed by building & construction, retail & commerce and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Gingles?
The largest religious group among Gingleses was Presbyterian, at 42.4%. The remainder were mostly Unitarian (36.4%), Roman Catholic (12.1%) and Anglican (9.1%).
