Counties and map with Given in Ireland
Donegal was Given country: 33.4% of them (124 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Derry (82), Tyrone (78), Antrim (55) and Down (7).

Given average age in 1911
The average Given in 1911 was 29.1 years old, 29.8 for men and 28.5 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Given literacy in 1911
Of the Givens whose literacy was recorded, 76.8% could both read and write, 5.3% could read but not write, and 17.9% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 78.3% reading and writing against 74.9% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Given common first names
The most common male names were James (19), John, William, Thomas and Robert. For women it was Mary (16), followed by Ellen, Margaret, Isabella and Maggie.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.6%), farm labourer (4.6%), seamstress (3.8%) and textile worker (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.1% of all Givens, followed by textiles & clothing, retired & pensioners and domestic service.
