Grundy in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 88 people named Grundy in Ireland; roughly one in every 50,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 41 men and 46 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)
Counties with Grundy in Ireland
The Grundys were heavily concentrated in Dublin, home to 64.8% of them (57 people). Next came Kildare (10), Wicklow (9), Tipperary (6) and Antrim (3).

Grundy average age in 1911
The average Grundy in 1911 was 26.5 years old, 25.2 for men and 27.7 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Grundy literacy in 1911
Of the Grundys whose literacy was recorded, 78.8% could both read and write, 3.8% could read but not write, and 17.5% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 81.8% reading and writing against 77.1% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Grundy common first names
The most common male names were James (6), John, William, Joseph and Robert. For women it was Mary Anne (5), followed by Bridget, Mary, Anne and Catherine.
Grundy occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Grundy's census form was "Scholar"; 23.9% (21) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (4.5%), mason / bricklayer (4.5%), general labourer (3.4%) and clerk / office worker (2.3%). Grouped by sector, building & construction accounted for 4.5% of all Grundys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and metal & engineering.
