Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (7.5%), textile worker (7.4%), general labourer (6%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.4%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 10.7% of all Hallidays, followed by agriculture, general labourers and retail & commerce.

The largest religious group among Hallidays was Anglican, at 44.9%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (37.7%), Roman Catholic (6.1%), Quaker (4.4%) and Methodist (3.4%).
