Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 15.4% of all Harbinsons, followed by agriculture, general labourers and retail & commerce.

Most Harbinsons, 54%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (23.1%), Anglican (19.3%), Plymouth Brethren (1.3%) and Methodist (0.9%).
