Harren literacy in 1911
Of the Harrens whose literacy was recorded, 65.2% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 29% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Hugh (3), James, John, Michael and Patrick. For women it was Bridget (4), followed by Mary, Mary Anne, Anne and Alice.

The most common occupation among Harrens was farmer, 30.4% of them (21 people). Next came scholar / student (11.6%), farm labourer (4.3%), housekeeper (2.9%) and no occupation / dependent (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 34.8% of all Harrens, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and no occupation / dependent.
