Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17% of all Hazletts, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.

The largest religious group among Hazletts was Anglican, at 41%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (39.9%), Roman Catholic (18%), Methodist (0.7%) and Unitarian (0.4%).
