The 1911 Census recorded 94 people named Head in Ireland; roughly one in every 47,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 49 men and 44 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

Galway was Head country: 40.4% of them (38 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Dublin (21), Roscommon (8), Tipperary (7) and Cork (3).
Head average age in 1911
The average Head in 1911 was 37.3 years old, 40.4 for men and 33.8 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Head literacy in 1911
Of the Heads whose literacy was recorded, 67% could both read and write, 13.2% could read but not write, and 19.8% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Head common first names
The most common male names were John (7), Michael, Patrick, Thomas and Edward. For women it was Mary (8), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Ada and Anne.
Head occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among Heads was farmer, 20.2% of them (19 people). Next came scholar / student (10.6%), domestic servant (4.3%), general labourer (4.3%) and no occupation / dependent (4.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.2% of all Heads, followed by domestic service, general labourers and no occupation / dependent.
What religion is Head?
Most Heads, 57.4%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (39.4%) and Presbyterian (1.1%).
