Healey in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 380 people named Healey in Ireland; roughly one in every 12,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 178 men and 200 women. (A small number, 2, had no sex recorded.)
Counties with Healey in Ireland
Kerry had the largest share of Healeys, 14.2% (54 people). Next came Mayo (48), Sligo (29), Cork (27) and Down (27).

The average Healey in 1911 was 29.6 years old, 27.9 for men and 31.2 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Healey literacy in 1911
Of the Healeys whose literacy was recorded, 72.6% could both read and write, 2.7% could read but not write, and 24.7% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (24), Michael, Patrick, James and Daniel. For women it was Mary (37), followed by Ellen, Bridget, Margaret and Catherine.

The most common entry on a Healey's census form was "Scholar"; 18.9% (72) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.5%), general labourer (4.2%), domestic servant (3.4%) and farm labourer (2.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17.9% of all Healeys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Healey?
Healeys were predominantly Roman Catholic (88.7%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (6.1%) and Anglican (4.5%).
