The Heaslips were heavily concentrated in Cavan, home to 59.2% of them (141 people). Next came Dublin (38), Cork (21), Kerry (10) and Derry (6).

Of the Heaslips whose literacy was recorded, 79% could both read and write, 4.7% could read but not write, and 16.3% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.1%), general labourer (3.8%), domestic servant (2.5%) and farm labourer (2.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 21.8% of all Heaslips, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
What religion is Heaslip?
Heaslips were predominantly Anglican (84%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (13.4%), Methodist (1.3%) and Presbyterian (0.4%).
