Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.5%), carpenter / joiner (3.5%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.5%) and domestic servant (2.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 12.6% of all Henchys, followed by retail & commerce, building & construction and domestic service.

Henchys were predominantly Roman Catholic (86%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (10.5%).
