Henley literacy in 1911
Of the Henleys whose literacy was recorded, 80% could both read and write, 1.5% could read but not write, and 18.5% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 90.3% reading and writing against 70.6% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (5), William, Henry, Patrick and John. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Anne, Ellen, Kate and Mary Anne.

The most common entry on a Henley's census form was "Scholar"; 18.5% (12) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (12.3%), domestic servant (4.6%), teacher (4.6%) and cook (3.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.8% of all Henleys, followed by domestic service, professional and building & construction.
What religion is Henley?
Henleys were predominantly Roman Catholic (83.1%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (16.9%).
