Men came out slightly ahead, 85.4% reading and writing against 80% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (10), John, Michael, James and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Bridget, Ellen, Mary Anne and Anne.

The most common occupation among Hevers was farmer, 20.8% of them (15 people). Next came scholar / student (11.1%), herd / dairy worker (8.3%), farm labourer (5.6%) and general labourer (5.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 34.7% of all Hevers, followed by domestic service, general labourers and building & construction.
