Hevey literacy in 1911
Of the Heveys whose literacy was recorded, 76.6% could both read and write, 2.6% could read but not write, and 20.8% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 78.9% reading and writing against 74.4% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (7), Michael, Christopher, Francis and Patrick. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Anne, Bridget, Catherine and Jane.

The most common entry on a Hevey's census form was "Scholar"; 23.1% (18) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9%), general labourer (7.7%), domestic servant (3.8%) and farm labourer (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.4% of all Heveys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.

Heveys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.4% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.3%).
