Hogarty literacy in 1911
Of the Hogartys whose literacy was recorded, 85.3% could both read and write, 1% could read but not write, and 13.7% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (8), Thomas, John, Michael and William. For women it was Margaret (7), followed by Mary, Bridget, Julia and Annie.

The most common entry on a Hogarty's census form was "Scholar"; 20% (21) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.4%), farm labourer (3.8%), general labourer (3.8%) and baker / confectioner (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.2% of all Hogartys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and building & construction.
What religion is Hogarty?
Hogartys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (1.9%).
