The average Jackson in 1911 was 29.2 years old, 29.0 for men and 29.4 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.7%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.6%), textile worker (3.3%) and general labourer (2.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 13.7% of all Jacksons, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and domestic service.

What religion is Jackson?

The largest religious group among Jacksons was Anglican, at 38.9%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (25.4%), Roman Catholic (24.3%), Methodist (5.2%) and Jewish (2%).
