Of the Jacob'ses whose literacy was recorded, 84.7% could both read and write, 1.7% could read but not write, and 13.6% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 91.7% reading and writing against 80% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Frederick William (2), Richard, William, Aaron and Abraham. For women it was Annie (2), followed by Fanny, Margrate, Margret and Anne.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were metal worker / engineer (10%), general labourer (5%), other maker / factory worker (5%) and baker / confectioner (3.3%). Grouped by sector, metal & engineering accounted for 10% of all Jacob'ses, followed by manufacturing & trades, general labourers and professional.
What religion is Jacob's?
The largest religious group among Jacob'ses was Roman Catholic, at 45%. The remainder were mostly Jewish (28.3%) and Anglican (18.3%).
