The Kealeys were heavily concentrated in Derry, home to 57.7% of them (150 people). Next came Carlow (33), Offaly (22), Dublin (18) and Laois (11).

Of the Kealeys whose literacy was recorded, 71.3% could both read and write, 6.1% could read but not write, and 22.5% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 75.7% reading and writing against 68.1% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (9.2%), farmer (8.5%), general labourer (4.6%) and domestic servant (2.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 18.1% of all Kealeys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and transport.

Kealeys were predominantly Roman Catholic (88.1%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (5.8%), Anglican (4.6%) and Salvation Army (0.4%).
