Keeffe literacy in 1911
Of the Keeffes whose literacy was recorded, 75% could both read and write, 4.1% could read but not write, and 21% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 75.9% reading and writing against 73.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (186), Patrick, Michael, James and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (194), followed by Bridget, Ellen, Margaret and Catherine.

The most common entry on a Keeffe's census form was "Scholar"; 20.4% (438) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.9%), farm labourer (9.2%), general labourer (6.4%) and domestic servant (4.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 24.8% of all Keeffes, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Keeffe?
Keeffes were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (0.7%).
