Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.4% of all Kelsos, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.

Most Kelsos, 62.1%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (26.3%), Methodist (4.3%), Roman Catholic (3.9%) and Plymouth Brethren (3%).
