The 1911 Census recorded 570 people named Kent in Ireland; roughly one in every 7,700 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 275 men and 294 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The average Kent in 1911 was 31.9 years old, 31.7 for men and 32.0 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Kent literacy in 1911
Of the Kents whose literacy was recorded, 81.4% could both read and write, 2.7% could read but not write, and 15.9% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 83.2% reading and writing against 79.6% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Kent common first names
The most common male names were John (50), James, Thomas, Patrick and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (51), followed by Margaret, Bridget, Ellen and Catherine.
Kent occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among Kents was farmer, 16.7% of them (95 people). Next came scholar / student (16.3%), general labourer (4%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.2%) and farm labourer (2.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.8% of all Kents, followed by retail & commerce, general labourers and domestic service.
What religion is Kent?
Kents were predominantly Roman Catholic (79.8%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (11.6%), Presbyterian (3.5%), Methodist (3.2%) and Non-Conformist (1.1%).
