The 1911 Census recorded 217 people named Keogan in Ireland; roughly one in every 20,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 111 men and 106 women.

The Keogans were heavily concentrated in Cavan, home to 50.2% of them (109 people). Next came Meath (56), Dublin (25), Leitrim (12) and Monaghan (7).

Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Thomas (17), John, Patrick, James and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Bridget (11), followed by Mary, Anne, Catherine and Maggie.

The most common occupation among Keogans was farmer, 27.2% of them (59 people). Next came scholar / student (19.8%), farm labourer (2.8%), general labourer (2.8%) and baker / confectioner (1.4%).
