Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common occupation among Keoghans was farmer, 20.2% of them (18 people). Next came scholar / student (12.4%), domestic servant (5.6%), dressmaker / milliner (3.4%) and farm labourer (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 25.8% of all Keoghans, followed by domestic service, general labourers and textiles & clothing.
