Of the Kerinses whose literacy was recorded, 79.7% could both read and write, 3.6% could read but not write, and 16.8% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 81.1% reading and writing against 78.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (32), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (32), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Margaret and Ellen.

Next came scholar / student (20.2%), general labourer (4.1%), farm labourer (3.4%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (2.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 26% of all Kerinses, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.
