Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 13% of all Kernaghans, followed by agriculture, general labourers and building & construction.

Most Kernaghans, 60.8%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (28.2%), Baptist (4.2%), Methodist (3.2%) and Roman Catholic (2.5%).
