Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 7% of all Kernahans, followed by agriculture, domestic service and metal & engineering.

The largest religious group among Kernahans was Presbyterian, at 43.9%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (35.1%), Roman Catholic (8.8%), Plymouth Brethren (7%) and Methodist (1.8%).
