Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.7% of all Kernohans, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and domestic service.

Kernohans were overwhelmingly Presbyterian, 96.9% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.4%) and Plymouth Brethren (0.7%).
