The most common male names were John (41), Thomas, Patrick, James and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (38), followed by Bridget, Ellen, Margaret and Catherine.

The most common occupation among Kilkennys was farmer, 27.8% of them (145 people). Next came scholar / student (22.8%), domestic servant (1.9%), farm labourer (1.9%) and mason / bricklayer (1.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 30.1% of all Kilkennys, followed by building & construction, domestic service and retired & pensioners.
