The average Kirk in 1911 was 30.0 years old, 28.7 for men and 31.2 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.9%), textile worker (4.4%), general labourer (4%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.4% of all Kirks, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and general labourers.

The largest religious group among Kirks was Roman Catholic, at 40.2%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (32.8%), Anglican (20.3%), Methodist (2.7%) and Congregationalist (1%).
