The Kitchens were heavily concentrated in Down, home to 70.5% of them (62 people). Next came Antrim (12), Dublin (6), Tipperary (4) and Derry (2).

The average Kitchen in 1911 was 23.4 years old, 23.7 for men and 23.2 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Kitchen literacy in 1911
Of the Kitchens whose literacy was recorded, 78.8% could both read and write, 2.4% could read but not write, and 18.8% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 80.6% reading and writing against 77.8% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were George (6), James, Patrick, Daniel and John. For women it was Agnes (4), followed by Annie, Elizabeth, Jane and Margaret.
Kitchen occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among Kitchens was textile worker, 14.8% of them (13 people). Next came scholar / student (9.1%), metal worker / engineer (6.8%), blacksmith / smith (5.7%) and clerk / office worker (4.5%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 18.2% of all Kitchens, followed by metal & engineering, clerical & administration and agriculture.
What religion is Kitchen?
The largest religious group among Kitchens was Presbyterian, at 48.9%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (45.5%), Roman Catholic (4.5%) and Congregationalist (1.1%).
