Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (8.7%), cook (5.8%), general labourer (5.8%) and textile worker (4.3%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 8.7% of all Lakes, followed by retail & commerce, textiles & clothing and general labourers.
What religion is Lake?
The largest religious group among Lakes was Roman Catholic, at 49.3%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (36.2%), Presbyterian (4.3%), Methodist (2.9%) and Salvation Army (2.9%).
