The 1911 Census recorded 79 people named Langrell in Ireland; roughly one in every 56,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more men than women recorded: 46 men to 33 women.

The Langrells were heavily concentrated in Wicklow, home to 67.1% of them (53 people). Next came Wexford (20), Carlow (4), Dublin (1) and Meath (1).

The average Langrell in 1911 was 24.5 years old, 23.5 for men and 25.9 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Langrell literacy in 1911
Of the Langrells whose literacy was recorded, 84.8% could both read and write, 1.3% could read but not write, and 13.9% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 87.9% reading and writing against 82.6% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Edward (4), John, Joseph, Isaac and James. For women it was Elizabeth (3), followed by Sarah, Frances, Lucinda and Margaret.
Langrell occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Langrell's census form was "Scholar"; 25.3% (20) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (17.7%), domestic servant (5.1%), farm labourer (1.3%) and other public service (1.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19% of all Langrells, followed by domestic service, manufacturing & trades and public service & defence.
What religion is Langrell?
Langrells were overwhelmingly Anglican, 91.1% of them. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (8.9%).
