The 1911 Census recorded 337 people named Leacy in Ireland; roughly one in every 13,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 166 men and 171 women.

The Leacys were heavily concentrated in Wexford, home to 85.5% of them (288 people). Next came Kilkenny (10), Armagh (9), Waterford (9) and Down (4).

Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (23), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (24), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Johanna and Elizabeth.

The most common occupation among Leacys was farmer, 17.8% of them (60 people). Next came scholar / student (16%), farm labourer (9.2%), general labourer (4.5%) and domestic servant (3.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 27.3% of all Leacys, followed by domestic service, general labourers and retail & commerce.

Leacys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 99.4% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (0.6%).
