The average Lecky in 1911 was 31.6 years old, 32.6 for men and 30.8 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Leckys whose literacy was recorded, 72.4% could both read and write, 8.6% could read but not write, and 18.9% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 77.3% reading and writing against 68% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were William (14), James, John, Thomas and Joseph. For women it was Jane (10), followed by Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary and Sarah.

The most common entry on a Lecky's census form was "Scholar"; 13.8% (26) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.2%), textile worker (6.4%), domestic servant (5.3%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.5% of all Leckys, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and domestic service.

What religion is Lecky?

Most Leckys, 50%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (29.3%), Roman Catholic (17%), Methodist (2.7%) and Congregationalist (0.5%).
