Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.7% of all Leggs, followed by retail & commerce, textiles & clothing and domestic service.

The largest religious group among Leggs was Roman Catholic, at 46.8%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (29.9%), Anglican (20.8%) and Unitarian (1.3%).
