Lehane in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 1,135 people named Lehane in Ireland, about 0.026% of everyone living in the country at the time and the 716th most common surname overall. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 568 men and 566 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The Lehanes were heavily concentrated in Cork, home to 83.9% of them (952 people). Next came Kerry (80), Waterford (28), Tipperary (20) and Limerick (19).

Lehane average age in 1911
The average Lehane in 1911 was 28.8 years old, 28.9 for men and 28.7 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Lehane literacy in 1911
Of the Lehanes whose literacy was recorded, 72.2% could both read and write, 4.3% could read but not write, and 23.5% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.6%), farm labourer (8.2%), general labourer (5.2%) and domestic servant (4.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.8% of all Lehanes, followed by domestic service, general labourers and transport.
