The average Lenagh in 1911 was 36.3 years old, 37.9 for men and 34.9 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Lenagh literacy in 1911
Of the Lenaghs whose literacy was recorded, 72.7% could both read and write, 7.6% could read but not write, and 19.7% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 76.7% reading and writing against 69.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (6), Thomas, John, James and Arthur. For women it was Mary (6), followed by Rose, Annie, Catherine and Alice.

The most common entry on a Lenagh's census form was "Scholar"; 16.4% (11) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.9%), textile worker (10.4%), domestic servant (4.5%) and dressmaker / milliner (4.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.4% of all Lenaghs, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
