Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 15.8% of all Lilleys, followed by general labourers, agriculture and metal & engineering.

Most Lilleys, 53%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (35.5%), Moravian (5.1%), Non-Conformist (2.6%) and Methodist (2.1%).
