The 1911 Census recorded 259 people named Lovett in Ireland; roughly one in every 17,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 133 men and 125 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The Lovetts were heavily concentrated in Kerry, home to 61.8% of them (160 people). Next came Cavan (17), Tipperary (14), Dublin (11) and Kilkenny (11).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17% of all Lovetts, followed by general labourers, retail & commerce and textiles & clothing.

Lovetts were predominantly Roman Catholic (83%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (15.8%) and Methodist (0.8%).
