Of the Luneys whose literacy was recorded, 77.9% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 16.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 80.9% reading and writing against 75.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (8), James, George, Edward and William. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Annie, Martha, Sarah and Isabella.

The most common entry on a Luney's census form was "Scholar"; 22.1% (23) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (21.2%), general labourer (3.8%), farm labourer (2.9%) and carpenter / joiner (1.9%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 21.2% of all Luneys, followed by agriculture, general labourers and transport.
What religion is Luney?
Most Luneys, 56.7%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (33.7%), Congregationalist (4.8%), Roman Catholic (2.9%) and Baptist (1%).
