The 1911 Census recorded 90 people named Malseed in Ireland; roughly one in every 49,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 42 men and 48 women.

The Malseeds were heavily concentrated in Donegal, home to 65.6% of them (59 people). Next came Derry (14), Tyrone (9), Antrim (7) and Armagh (1).

Of the Malseeds whose literacy was recorded, 85.4% could both read and write, 2.2% could read but not write, and 12.4% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 90.2% reading and writing against 81.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (9), John, Harry, Henry and Andrew. For women it was Mary (6), followed by Sarah, Margaret, Catherine and Eliza.

The most common occupation among Malseeds was farmer, 24.4% of them (22 people). Next came scholar / student (12.2%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (4.4%), teacher (2.2%) and agent / manager (1.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 25.6% of all Malseeds, followed by retail & commerce, domestic service and professional.
What religion is Malseed?
Malseeds were predominantly Presbyterian (77.8%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (10%), Methodist (6.7%), Anglican (3.3%) and Plymouth Brethren (1.1%).
