Of the Manleys whose literacy was recorded, 85.5% could both read and write, 2.4% could read but not write, and 12.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 88.5% reading and writing against 82.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (30), Michael, Patrick, William and James. For women it was Mary (28), followed by Bridget, Hannah, Margaret and Catherine.

The most common entry on a Manley's census form was "Scholar"; 16.9% (66) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (8.2%), farm labourer (3.8%), general labourer (3.6%) and clerk / office worker (3.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 12.6% of all Manleys, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is Manley?
Manleys were predominantly Roman Catholic (75.6%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (14.4%), Methodist (7.2%), Baptist (0.5%) and Salvation Army (0.5%).
