Dublin had the largest share of Maudes, 22.6% (14 people). Next came Galway (13), Antrim (10), Cork (8) and Fermanagh (4).

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Maudes whose literacy was recorded, 96.6% could both read and write, 3.4% could read but not write, and 0% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were William (2), Anthony, Anthony Firty, Anthony Fritz and Ceely. For women it was Margaret (3), followed by Mary, ?rene, Agnes and Alice Mary.

The most common entry on a Maude's census form was "Scholar"; 27.4% (17) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were agent / manager (9.7%), textile worker (8.1%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (6.5%) and farmer (3.2%). Grouped by sector, retail & commerce accounted for 16.1% of all Maudes, followed by textiles & clothing, professional and agriculture.
What religion is Maude?
Most Maudes, 56.5%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (27.4%) and Methodist (16.1%).
