Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.9% of all McBrinns, followed by textiles & clothing, manufacturing & trades and clerical & administration.

Most McBrinns, 53.7%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (26.8%), Protestant (12.2%), Anglican (4.9%) and Methodist (2.4%).
